You already know the value of publishing a creator-led newsletter for your business or passion project, and last week, you met a newsletter expert who shared his insights about the practical benefits of starting a newsletter.

Now, discover quick tips to help you convert more of your subscribers into loyal fans, followers, supporters, and clients.

1—Make it simple for new connections to subscribe to your newsletter with the following suggestions:

  • Link your header to your opt-in/subscribe page.

  • Show the person behind the brand. Add your photo with a brief bio or About blurb in your header or footer so new connections (forwards) know who you are and why they should subscribe.

  • Add a subscribe link or form in your header or footer copy. Personally, I prefer seeing subscribe links or forms in the footer because when I’m new to reading a newsletter, I need to read it first to decide if I want to subscribe.

2—Here's how to nurture your relationship with existing connections:

  • If you're using an ESP (email service provider) or newsletter platform like beehiiv*, ensure you have a reliable reply-to email. (If you need help setting this up, ask me.)

  • Add your contact info or booking link in the footer copy. (💡Keep it simple: Hyperlink "Contact me." with mailto:youremailgoeshere?subject=Subscriber Feedback.)

  • Reply to every subscriber's email or comment, and say thank you to folks who reach out to you.

3—Here are some general newsletter tips:

  • Per Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recommendations, add an affiliate link disclosure at the top of your newsletter when applicable. You don't want to get caught by the internet police.

  • Choose a viable topic and focus. Then, stick to it for at least 90 days before making adjustments. (Ask me how!)

  • Go your own way. Decide your MVI (Minimum Viable Investment/energy output) and plan a comfortable publishing cadence accordingly.
