10 Easy Newsletter Growth Tips (No Social Media Needed!)

Get out-of-the-box (and practical) strategies.

Hey, Jae here. You're reading Boss Creator Bulletin. I hope this issue benefits you and your content projects. Let me know if I can help! FYI... this issue includes an affiliate partner link, which means I may receive a small (tiny) commission if you make a purchase using my link. Thanks!

Let's talk about newsletters...

You know that email marketing, specifically a newsletter, is your best way to stay connected and nurture your clients because you control the medium.

I ditched Twitter when Elon took over, and I left FB over five years ago and officially ditched IG last year, and I haven't looked back.

One of the main reasons I left those social media platforms was that I wanted to have total control over how and where my readers consume my contentPlus, I didn’t want to compete with dancing dog videos or inappropriate ads.

Initially, I thought I'd move all of my "social" posts to LinkedIn because I prefer the platform, and it's a trusted business networking site.

Ultimately, I have to go where my energy aligns most, which centers more on feeling like I have a 1:1 connection with folks on my terms, and a newsletter does that.

Because I kicked social media to the curb, I'm exploring other ways to entice new readers. Hence, my new Boss Creator Bulletin newsletter! But just like any new endeavor, you need to grow it.

If you're like me and want to grow your newsletter without social media, you need out-of-the-box tips to help you find and engage readers.

Whether a beginner or an experienced newsletter creator, here are 10 quick and unconventional ways (that work for me!) to maximize your email marketing outreach and engagement:

1- Ditch the "newsletter" concept and create a "community" instead–grow your vibe tribe.

2- Rethink your idea of "subscribers." Instead, consider them as "readers," allies, and connections.

3- If you’re starting with a small list, invest in creating engaging content to build trust and nurture relationships.

  • You could get to know your connections by asking leading questions.

  • Deliver extra value by giving them BTS access to your workflow or offer other exclusives.

4- You're likely subscribed to other newsletters, so engage with other newsletter creators to build strategic partnerships.

5- Do a newsletter swap.

6- Create a footer and email signature CTAs to encourage shares. Make it easy for new folks to sign up and link to a few of your previous high-performing newsletters to give new readers a taste of your content.

7- Add subscribe links to your business website navigation.

8- Revisit past newsletter wins and replicate or republish what you wrote.

9- Repurpose your newsletter in a LinkedIn newsletter (see how to launch a LinkedIn newsletter below) or Medium.com publication.

10- Take advantage of newsletter eco-systems: Try Convertkit or Beehiiv.

Growing your newsletter without relying on social media may seem daunting, but finding and engaging new connections using out-of-the-box strategies can help!
